Milan (Italy)

The Milan derby or the Derby della Madonnina

Football is the most popular sport in Italy, and Milan is home to two world-famous football teams: A.C. Milan and F.C. Internazionale Milano. The former is normally referred to as "Mìlan" (notice the stress on the first syllable, unlike the English and Milanese name of the city), the latter as "Inter". A match between these two teams is known as the Milan derby or the Derby della Madonnina (in honor of one of the main sights of the city, a statue of the Virgin Mary "Madonnina" on top of the Duomo di Milano).

Milan is one of the most supported football clubs in Italy, according to an August 2007 research by Italian newspaper La Repubblica. Historically, Milan was supported by the city's working-class and trade unionists, a section of whom were migrants from Southern Italy. On the other hand, crosstown rivals Internazionale were mainly supported by the more prosperous and typically Milanese middle-class.

One of the oldest ultras groups in all of Italian football, Fossa dei Leoni, originated in Milan. Currently the main ultras group is Brigate Rossonere and has been since the mid-1970s. Politically, Milan ultras have never had any particular preference, but the media have traditionally associated them with the left-wing, until recent times under Berlusconi's presidency where they are considered somewhat right-wing.

Inter is one of the most supported clubs in Italy according to an August 2007 research by Italian newspaper La Repubblica,. Historically the largest section of Inter fans from the city of Milan.

The traditional ultras group of Inter is Boys San, they hold a significant place in the history of the ultras scene in general due to the fact that they are one of the oldest; founded in 1969. Politically the ultras of Inter are usually considered right-wing, as thus they have good relationships with Verona and Lazio. As well as the main group Boys San, there are four more significant groups; Viking, Irriducibili, Ultras, and Brianza Alcoolica.

13. Atlético Mineiro vs Cruzeiro

Belo Horizonte (Brazil)

Atlético plays two derbies in Belo Horizonte City: Atlético vs. América and Atlético vs. Cruzeiro. Until the 1950s and early 1960s,
the biggest derby of Minas Gerais State was Atlético vs América, but from the mid-1960s on, Atlético vs. Cruzeiro became the biggest.

Atlético's fan base is the biggest in the state of Minas Gerais, ahead of América and Cruzeiro.

As it is usual in many Brazilian states, there are two main football powerhouses and through out time they have become greatest rivals. Atlético and Cruzeiro are no exception. It’s the biggest derby in the state of Minas Gerais, and besides Rio and São Paulo derbies, it is one of the greatest in Brazil.

There is always a big feud between the two fan sides, some claiming one is stronger and the other claiming the other is stronger. Overall,  Atlético has managed to win 169 derby matches, Cruzeiro has won 139 and there have been 113 draws, out of 420 derbies. Cruzeiro has won over 106 titles (official and nonofficial).

But when the two play it seems like history or statistics mean nothing to the players, because every time the teams play each other, a show is truly put on for their fans.
