VIOLENCE IN STUTTGART

English soccer fans in Stuttgart for the England-Ecuador match on Sunday caused some of the worst hooligan violence seen at the World Cup so far. On Saturday night, police arrested 400 people and banned many from entering the city center. Authorities fear further unrest.

Hundreds of thousands have celebrated the World Cup peacefully across Germany over the past two weeks, but in Stuttgart on Saturday, the country experienced the worst outbreak of hooliganism during the tournament. Police took around 400 predominantly English football fans into temporary preventative custody ahead of England's Sunday match against Ecuador by midday.

The arrests came following rioting on Saturday evening by English fans, causing the authorities to ban many from entering the city center until Monday morning.(spiegel.de)
